Escargot w/ garlic white wine w/ puff pastry.

Vin de Set is in the Lafayette Square neighborhood. It is a casual, rustic, yet upscale dining experience. An "experience" was exactly what the evening was about.

We experienced the "Chef's Tasting Dinner", which was a 6 course dinner for $70 per person, we also added a five course wine flight.

As we arrived we were led up to a private loft area that has the chef's table which seats only 8-10 people. Our server was Jackie, and she started us off w/ the cheese course. There were 4 cheese boards on the table w/ pickled brussel sprouts, grd. mustard and jams along w/ a variety of cheeses. Manchego, st.andre, and the roquefort were among our favorites.

Next came our hot appetizer which was the Escargot w/ carmelized onion, white wine, garlic butter sauce w/ puff pastry. Delicious and tender. Baby spinach salad w/ dried apricots, cranberries, strawberries, blue cheese, walnuts w/ a white balsamic vinaigrette.

Special diet considerations were no problem. The airline chicken was substituted for one person who did not care for fish. The grilled pork loin chop was substituted for someon else. For the fish course, Mahi-Mahi w/ saffron rice, and a baby lima bean vanilla sauce. The most amazing delicate flavor I have ever tasted. . Steak au Poivre was tenderloins over mashed potatoes. The steak was delicious, but we all agreed the potatos were a bit salty. We each recieved our own large size Creme Brulee. As each course was served, Jackie made wine recommendations such as the Huntington Petite Syrah.

The chef, Ivy Magruder also came by our table to introduce himself.

This was truly the most amazing evening. Not to mention the roof top bar w/ a view of the St. Louis skyline. http://www.vindeset.com/

By the way, since there was 8 of us and we wanted to ride together, my wonderful brother offered to drive his RV and Vin de Set was also accomodating to that also.

We also used the service of the Scooter Guy to drive us back to St. Charles. http://www.goscooterguy.com/ A fabulous driving service!
